The Northeastern men’s hockey team (9-9-3,7-4-2 HE) triumphantly rounded the bases Dec. 7, defeating the No. 9/10 University of Connecticut Huskies (13-5-3,8-4-2 HE) 4-1. The two Huskies faced off in Boston’s historic Fenway Park, participating in the fifth iteration of the Frozen Fenway series, last played in 2017.

Northeastern University is known for its NCAA Division One, or D1, teams, such as men’s and women’s ice hockey, basketball and baseball. Many individuals on the teams are scouted and receive large amounts of recognition for their student-athlete positions.

However, Northeastern is also home to a multitude of club sports that much of the student body participates in, yet they do not receive as much acknowledgement.

The 126th Boston Marathon returned to its usual date, Patriot’s Day, for the first time since 2019.

On Monday, spectators gathered on Boylston Street to cheer for the 24,918 athletes who would cross the finish line. Boylston Street was filled with families and onlookers with even more people milling around the surrounding streets trying to get a peak at the finish line.

Northeastern welcomes back spectators to athletic events

According to a press release published Sunday, Northeastern University will be reopening home athletic events to spectators starting Monday. Northeastern home games have not seen spectators since Dec. 17, 2021 due to the surge of cases among the student population.

In order to attend an event, guests 12 and older need to present proof of full vaccination, including a booster shot, by Jan. 18, or as soon as they are eligible.

Women’s volleyball takes home win on Senior Day

After losing with a score of 1-3 to the College of Charleston (13-10, 6-6 CAA) Nov. 6, the Northeastern women’s volleyball team (11-11, 7-5 CAA) came back with a score of 3-0 in Sunday’s game, Nov. 7, at Cabot Center.

Northeastern University women’s volleyball (11-9, 7-3 CAA) took on Elon University (13-9, 8-4 CAA) for the first time this season Oct. 23 and 24 at the Cabot Center. The victory over Elon in both games sent NU into a three-game winning streak after a season filled with constant ups and downs.

On Oct. 16, NU experienced a devastating 3-0 loss against University of Delaware (11-10, 6-6 CAA). Delaware swept all three sets with scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-22.

After cancellations, postponements and a “virtual experience”, the Boston Marathon finish line returned to Copley Square Oct. 11.

For the first time in the 2021-22 season, Northeastern University (2-1-0) traveled to Walter Brown Arena to play Boston University (3-0-0).

The last time the two teams faced off in Walter Brown Arena was Feb. 11, 2020 for the Beanpot title, which resulted in a 3-3 tie in overtime.

The Northeastern Huskies volleyball team’s season (6-6, 2-0 CAA) is in full swing and currently on a four-game winning streak, the longest winning streak in the CAA conference so far. The streak includes wins against Bryant College (6-8, 0-0 NEC), Harvard University (3-6, 0-0 Ivy League) and most recently the College of William & Mary (3-4, 0-2 CAA).
